How is an appliance different from software products?

Appliances provide IT administrators a secure, easy to manage platform for deploying email applications. Software-based solutions require procuring a separate server, integrating the appropriate hardware (drives, memory, CPU), loading the operating system and installing the application. The IronPort "Blocker" is purpose-built for administrator simplicity, no additional hardware or software configuration is required.

Unlike most other anti-spam appliances, IronPort's "Blocker" is based on Dell's flagship Power Edge 850 server. Other vendors utilize lower cost appliance options — resulting in reduced quality and inferior reliability to Dell's Power Edge series.
