Anti-Spam Researcher
Reports To:
Reports to the Engineering Manager, Threat Analysis. Works closely with product management, QA, and other members of the development team.
Job Description:
IronPort Systems is looking for an anti-spam researcher for an applied research position. This individual will work to increase the efficacy of our security applications, particularly as they relate to email and web security. They will develop automated techniques to increase our ability to identify and block threats. They will perform analyses to support and evaluate methodologies and their potential effects.
As an applied researcher the candidate should be comfortable engaging in healthy debate with team members, giving architectural direction to others, proposing and prototyping new approaches, participating as a direct contributor, and at times being involved in customer engagements and escalations.
Development will be on a UNIX-based platform primarily using Python as an implementation language.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Breadth of knowledge in spam and anti-spam techniques
- Proven experience applying classification and machine learning techniques to fighting spam.
- Hands-on experience responding to evolving threats
- Experience being a key contributor to a security product
- 8+ years software development experience, preferably in a Unix environment.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field is desirable
- Knowledge of web threats and security highly desirable
- Ability to quickly prototype ideas.
- Facility with applied statistics
- Past experience turning research ideas into actionable designs
- Must possess strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills, and the ability to communicate and interact with all members of the development team.
