IronPort Unveils Global Email and Website Reputation Data via Public Website

SenderBase.org Website Designed to Empower Internet Community in War against Spam, Viruses, Spyware and Identity Theft

SAN FRANCISO, Calif. - May 21, 2007 - The first to offer reputation filtering for protection against spam, viruses and spyware, IronPort® Systems, Inc., today announced that it has completely revamped its industry-leading traffic monitoring website, www.senderbase.org, which it pioneered in 2003. This new website provides email administrators a unique view of the email and Web traffic coming into their networks. Moreover, the new graphical user interface at SenderBase.org now makes it easier than ever for every member of the Internet community to track spam trends, virus outbreaks, spyware and other Web-based threats.

A free resource, SenderBase.org can be used like a credit reporting service - providing comprehensive data that ISPs and companies can use to differentiate legitimate senders from spammers and other attackers - giving system administrators the insight to help them make critical security decisions. Consumers, media and other parties can also use IronPort's SenderBase® to monitor threat activity, check email reputation scores and get real-time updates on the latest virus outbreaks.

"Breadth of data is key to making accurate decisions about security threats," commented Brian Burke, Research Manager for IDC's Security Products service. " IronPort's SenderBase Network provides an unprecedented real-time view into security threats from around the world. The new SenderBase graphical interface, enhanced reporting tools, and the ease of use provides comprehensive data that ISPs and companies can use to help them make critical security decisions."

"Reputation is based on data, and breadth of data is the key in making accurate decisions about security threats," said Tom Gillis, Senior Vice President of Marketing at IronPort Systems. "When we first launched SenderBase four years ago, we knew that that it had the power to change the way organizations ranging from small businesses to the Global 2000 waged war against spam. Today, the new SenderBase.org is building on that success to provide even more accurate and unrivaled insight into not just spam patterns, but also Web-based threats."

New and improved SenderBase features include:

  • Reputation Scores - Available to anyone with a domain name or IP address, these scores measure sender trustworthiness. Users can enter a domain or IP address into the reputation lookup section and see the IronPort Reputation Score (Poor, Neutral or Good). The scores can also be used to determine whether your identity is being compromised by criminal activity.
  • Summary of Spam and Virus Threats - Spam and virus activity is monitored 24x7 and identified by location (with integrated Google Maps), threat type and volume.
  • Detailed Reporting - Reports by type, IP address, domain and volume are available. These reports are updated in real time and also offer historical analysis. In addition, data can exported so that users may create their own reports.

About IronPort's SenderBase

IronPort's SenderBase is the industry's first, largest and most accurate global email traffic monitoring network. SenderBase measures more than 25 percent of the world's messaging traffic - receiving over five billion queries per day, with real-time data streaming in from every continent and network providers large and small. SenderBase has the most accurate view of the sending patterns of any given mail sender because of the size of the database, and conversely the database is the world's largest because of the accuracy of the data. SenderBase is unique in that it even collects data from the networks of organizations that are not IronPort customers. Currently, over 100,000 organizations participate in IronPort's SenderBase Network. IronPort shares SenderBase data with other large ISPs in a data peering relationship, and also licenses the data to the open-source community and other institutions that are participating in the fight against spam and Web-based threats.
