IronPort's Patrick Peterson Awarded 'Shaping Info Security - 2005 Award'

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — August 24, 2005 - IronPort Systems Inc., the market share leader1 in email security, today announced that Patrick Peterson, Vice President of Technology, has won the first annual "Shaping Info Security - 2005" Award from the editors of the Info Security Products Guide. Patrick Peterson's achievements are featured in the latest edition of Info Security Product Guide, which lists products and solutions from more than 418 security vendors worldwide.

Vice President of Technology of IronPort Systems, Peterson is an inventor of IronPort's Information Services offerings, including SenderBase, the world's first and largest email traffic monitoring service to provide identification of legitimate email and independent data on senders of email. He has contributed to developing and deploying technologies to address the spam problem and its related side effects. Peterson is an active industry advocate and speaker. In addition, his views and commentary on industry issues can be read at http://www.fixingemail.org/, where he is a guest blogger.

"Peterson was clearly at the top of the list as an instrumental contributor in the IT security field," said Judy Shelton, group editor, Silicon Valley Communications, publisher of the Info Security Product Guide. "Peterson's foresight in recognizing ahead of time the burgeoning real-time email-borne threats and focusing on providing the optimum technology and platforms to address the situation, exemplifies the vision and commitment the Info Security Products Guide Awards aims to recognize this year."

"I am honored to be recognized for achievements in addressing email threats to enterprise, service provider, and global networks," said Patrick Peterson. "Today email threats accounts for approximately 72% of daily circulated email. Companies and service providers left unprotected by the mechanisms we have developed at IronPort are prey to these annoying, and increasingly, criminal threats. It has been a personal goal as well as IronPort's corporate goal to establish optimum, secure email communications globally."

IronPort's contributions and successes are far-reaching; 8 of the 10 largest ISPs and 20% of the world's largest enterprises use IronPort email technology to eliminate spam, viruses, and phishing scams at the network perimeter. IronPort perimeter protection shields both networks and their email users while preventing global proliferation of spam and viruses.
